Our purpose

Why Old Time Preaching exists

Recovering serious biblical thought and the history of people whose convictions were tested in the real world.

More than a sermon archive

Old Time Preaching is an independent Christian journal with a Reformed theological outlook. Its interests include Scripture, historic preachers, Christian doctrine, book reviews, and history.

We believe the past can teach the present. People have lived through wars, imprisonment, religious opposition, grief and difficulty. Reading their stories should not merely entertain us; it ought to provoke serious thought about our own responsibilities.

Why books matter here

Books—whether read on paper or heard as audiobooks—can introduce us to people and places beyond our own lives. Our reviews will be candid, personal, and checked for historical accuracy. We will not pretend that a reviewer read a book he did not read, or manufacture a disagreement to make a review seem balanced.

Our editorial standard

When we publish historical facts, we aim to name sources. When we offer an interpretation or an opinion, we will identify it as such. AI may assist with drafting, editing, coding, and research, but it cannot replace the reviewer's real experience or personal convictions.

We are starting with a single substantial review and a structure ready for growth. More writing will be added as it has something worthwhile to say.
